The purpose of our company is to help you take advantage of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and apply for duty reductions on goods moving between the borders of Canada, the United States and Mexico. Our software - The ORIGIN product - contains the NAFTA knowledge. The knowledge contained in the program reflects the input of trade and legal experts, as well as key NAFTA negotiators from all three countries. ORIGIN interprets and links all origin related provisions of NAFTA and performs Rules of Origin determinations. According to the information you provide, ORIGIN decides whether or not a final product, and the goods that go into its manufacture complies with NAFTA Rules of Origin. In additional, ORIGIN is capable of interpreting changes in trade rulings, as well as new modules and functions.

ORIGIN is designed to assist you in determining whether or not a final product qualifies for preferential duty treatment under NAFTA. ORIGIN displays a series of questions in logical sequence about the origin of the input goods that make up a final product (input goods are anything used to bring the product to its final state, such as materials, parts, assembly and packaging.) Answers to these questions are provided, in part, by you and are used by ORIGIN to conclude if goods qualify for duty reductions and, if so, what Rules of Origin apply.

Once a determination is finished, you can print a Determination Report that is instrumental when responding to questions raised by Customs during an audit. In addition, this report is useful when responding to questionnaires issued by Customs and when answering other points raised by Customs regarding a finished good. The report lists all the steps covered during the determination process and helps prove that Reasonable Care was taken to establish that a good qualified for preferential treatment. The use of a logical determination process, such as ORIGIN's, in conjunction with proper data storage and maintenance procedures, demonstrates to Customs that the standard of reasonable care has been met. When this is the case, you can substantially reduce or eliminate any potential fine that could be levied under the circumstances.
